Each year, millions of workers suffer workplace injuries that could have been prevented. Some of the most common and preventable injuries are cuts and lacerations. Although statistical data differs from study to study, cuts and lacerations often rank as the second or third most frequent workplace injury.
Employees often are injured or killed by moving parts that are not recognized as hazards or dangers; or by moving parts you might assume no one would put any part of their body into.
It happens. Whether it is an injury, property damage or an unexpected, unwanted consequence of some activity - it happens. The crane topples, the worker gets injured and the material becomes damaged. These are examples of the it. However, the focus of this discussion is not the it. We are too familiar with the it. During our discussion, we will focus on the behind-the-scenes factors that permit the it to occur.
How safe is your loading dock? What are typical causes of loading dock accidents, incidents and events? What do we check to prevent loading dock accidents? Through group discussion, the workers will raise each others' awareness of hazards and safe practices around loading docks.
There are other standards in OSHA that require housekeeping in other aspects. Additionally, good housekeeping leads to a safe work environment, not to mention, improved production, quality and effectiveness. Housekeeping is the first impression to all visitors and employees at a facility.
